Screen ADHD First · Clinical Review
Review The Screening-First Protocol
An invitation from Joe Barnhill to strengthen the evidence, clarify the wording, and improve the proposed approach to ADHD screening before substance-use treatment.
Read The ProtocolThis is a proposal for discussion, not an official guideline. Screening is not diagnosis and must not delay urgent substance-use care. Please evaluate the original sources and applicability to your clinical setting.
Where Your Review Would Help
1. Guidelines And Studies
Which sources are missing, outdated, or misrepresented? Are the research summaries and prevalence claims appropriately qualified?
2. Screening And Assessment
Are the screening tools, follow-up evaluation, and timing during intoxication or withdrawal described accurately? Is the distinction between screening and diagnosis clear?
3. Treatment And Safety
Would you revise medication wording, coordinated care recommendations, referral pathways, or safeguards? What should change for adolescents?
4. Practical Wording
Which sentences would you rewrite for treatment centers, individual clinicians, or patients and families? What would make the steps more realistic in practice?
For each proposed change, please identify the section, offer replacement wording, and include a supporting source when possible. Do not include patient-identifying information.
